G'day all!
And they're off!! Finally!!
Well, standard class anyway. The winds are just a bit too strong for club class so their task was cancelled at briefing. Standard, however, can load up and penetrate into the wind much better. Their task is an AAT of scratch distance 170 km or so, in 1.5 hours. Supposedly there's a slight chance of thunderstorms today but that seems unlikely.
What does matter, though, is that, yep, they're gone! Launched on time at 1330, the whole class in 1/2 hour and start gate open 20 minutes later. The air's hugely unstable after last night's clean-out and there are lots of Cu's around.
Apparently the storms that hit us were relatively benign. Some places fared much worse; we were apparently spared the worst of the storms. There's an air traffic tower which was apparently manned throughout the night to report if anything really bad was going to hit. The sparks display would've been impressive from there.
We have a few big puddles on the airfield and so far no one's managed to land in them or drive through them. Of course paddocks for outlanding might not be so good so we hope no one does outland.
Now monitoring progress via live tracking.
Updates to follow - don't go away!!
