yesterdays blog

I had a two and a half hour comfortable flight today. I was comfortable in the glider, I was comfortable on the tow with water, I was comfortable flying over the terrain, comfortable thermaling lower and with what feels like just the right amount of ballast.

Last night in the super market I found some thin tie on chair cushions and I have them just in the right spot now to make the glider as comfortable as I can with the parachute pack that I have. It is much better setup now than every glider that I have flown.. That's not really saying to much as I haven't flown many different gliders or anything as modern as this before so I am obviously super happy with this aircraft and it is going to be a fantastic competition.

As for the flight itself today, it was again a  look around training flight with no set task. The weather this morning was not looking as expected at all but by around 12ish it was looking like reasonable day. I eventually turned out to be very similar to the previous days with quite good climbs to around 5000'. I found it a little trickier to find climbs with the different wind direction today. The clouds were also less defined then the previous days and I did have to search for the good climbs. More and more people are starting to arrive every day and more competitors flying other than a Dane and I. There are actually some competitors now from standard class and today I flew a little way with two Frenchmen flying a Discus 2 and an LS8. I was intending to try and stick to them longer to gauge the climb performance of the 28 but at a left or right decision point along a street, after I pushed on from a few trying circles. I went left and they took right. I didn't see them again until I was overflying the field again and from the air watched them do a competition finish in formation.

I heard that tomorrow is looking to be blue so that will be again a great learning experience.

Andy and I, then Ailsa and some Pom's sat outside the gliding hotel for a nice dinner.
This lot cost me under AU$10 including the beer... be Jealous

  2. A few more meals like that and you won't have to worry about watering the glider in the mornings... ;-)
Maybe get Ailsa on this diet too and she won't have to organise weights either... :-) (Sorry Ailsa - couldn't help myself).
All the best to the team. Aussie, Aussie, Aussie!!!
