Yesterday afternoon I had my first flight in an ASK13. Apart from not being able to adjust the rudder pedals it was fantastic. It was the same glider that my dad learned to fly in and oh boy is it in good condition.
I had almost an hour and a half flying in/over (either way you look at it) dads old stomping ground, it was great to finally get a soaring flight and have a look around. The K13 was just lovely to fly; it handles well, flies straight and even spins when you want to come down in a hurry. This was my first flight in wood and fabric and I loved it.
Dad said that the bloke who came up with me was one of his favorite instructors and I can see why. Being Germany of course he was called Hans, but what a top bloke. Even with the massive language barrier I bumbled around the sky with him giving the tour from the backseat. I had a wonderful day flying in the low vis haze and above the non-existent out landing options.
Now this morning I'm off to grab the car, pack it full, drive 3 hours, pick up my glider and of to Poland I go!
Greetings from Deutschland,
Eric
