Club Class Practice Day 1

Today the plan was to fly along with Emmanuel Cadieux from Canada. We met up alright after agreeing to meet near the start point, but didn't get comms going because I hadn't worked out which frequency was active on my radio. (Listened to the CTAF all day instead of the team frequency.) We flew the first leg in whatever direction it was together (they don't have nice North-South paddocks here to keep track, and the sun's in the wrong place :-) ), then I turned along a street and found the Czech team in the next climb along. I lost Emmanuel after that climb, as I'd dived after the Czech pilots when they left. This was a good move, because the next climb they found for me was 4.5kts.

Kept playing along, sort of (Didn't have the task in my PDA...) flying the task for another 30km or so, then I decided to head back to the airfield to practice straight in finishes. Eric had said that they're different here - very true. My first try I was at 2200ft 10km out, so took a climb and went back for another try! The second time was a lot better, trusting the numbers on the PDA a little more and ending up at a more reasonable 1500ft or so.

A fairly short flight of just under 2 hours today, as yesterday I did almost 5 hours.

  3. great to hear that you are in the air Ailsa. Certainly the best looking glider there, hope it flys like it looks. Build up your experience and confidence - hope you get a few reasonable days - and then enjoy the comp.
