Earlier today Matt, Andrew and I drove in and around the 3km finish ring inspecting landable fields should we be stretching our final glides. It is actually much better than we thought and now also gives us a reference to the fields we will see while on task.
Just now we had the Opening Ceremony. It was long. But it sure did get my heart racing toward the end! Come on now! Keep it PG!
It was and aero display starting with three parachutists flying flags. That was fairly tame. Next a polish twin seat glider doing aerobatics, and that started to get the blood pumping. Flick rolls, tumbles, an outside loop! Then a double low pass, over tied down gliders, pulls up over the hangar, right up, really slow as he turns and points down at the crowd, pulls up very low and over the gliders again and the out for a short circuit to land. WOAH!! 'Crowd line' has no meaning in Polish.
Next a Gyrocopter was up doing all sorts of maneuvers low over the tied down gliders, not to mention all the show smoke film he was coating all the gliders in. Especially all those without covers!! Again, no concept of crowd line.
It was so intense I think a little bit of wee came out.
Then we had a fly over of all the tugs which was nice and gentle to calm me down.
That was certainly an experience in itself.
I'm off to bed now and visualizing for tomorrow. Game face on!
